Selecting the correct material comes down to a few important characteristics and is critical to the long term performance of the gasket. Items that need to considered include:
- Type of material against which is the gasket sealing (e.g. gasoline, FreonŽ, water)
- Service temperature of the application, both max temperature and standard operating temperature.
- Available surface area
- Exposure to outside elements (e.g. sunlight) the gasket will have
